Privacy Policy

Last updated · May 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how TripRank ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the TripRank mobile application (the "App"). We aim to collect the minimum needed to make the App work — nothing more.

Important summary: TripRank records, collects, and stores trip telemetry (location, speed, motion sensor data) and account information on our servers. Recording occurs while a trip is active, and may continue in the background if you grant the relevant permissions. Data is transmitted to and stored on cloud servers we control, including third-party infrastructure providers acting on our behalf. By using the App, you acknowledge and consent to this collection and server-side storage.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location & Motion Data

With your permission, TripRank accesses your device's GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, and other motion sensors to record trip telemetry — speed, distance, heading, altitude, timestamps, and full route geometry. Location is collected while a trip is active, and — if you grant Always location permission — in the background to support automatic trip detection. Recorded telemetry is uploaded to and stored on our servers so that it can be synced across your devices, displayed on leaderboards, and made available for replay.

1.2 Account Information

If you create an account, we collect your chosen display name, profile photo (optional), country, vehicle type, and preferred units. We do not require your legal name.

1.3 Device Information

We collect basic device data — model, OS version, app version, and a unique installation identifier — to diagnose crashes and improve performance.

1.4 Usage Analytics

We collect anonymized usage events (screens viewed, features used, errors encountered) to understand how the App is used and where it can be improved.

1.5 Purchase Data

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We receive a transaction receipt from Apple to verify your subscription status. We do not see your payment card or billing address.

1.6 Server-Side Storage

All trip data, account information, and most settings are stored on cloud servers that we operate or rent from infrastructure providers (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, or equivalent). This includes:

Data is transmitted over TLS and stored encrypted at rest. We retain control of this data and apply the rights described in Section 6 below. If you choose Private mode, your trips are still stored on our servers for backup and sync — they are simply not shown to other users. If you want trips to never leave your device, do not create an account or sign out before recording.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Privacy Controls

You control how your trips appear to others. The privacy modes are:

You can change this any time in Settings. To remove a trip from our servers entirely, delete it from your trip list.

4. Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

5. Data Retention

Trips are retained until you delete them or your account. Account data is retained while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].

7. Children's Privacy

TripRank is not directed to children under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 17. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

Data is transmitted over TLS and stored encrypted at rest. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we apply industry-standard safeguards to protect your information.

9. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in-app. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
